Big Week, Many Changes!

I apologize for my tardiness in getting this update out. It has been a rather long week for the Weebert clan! Monday of this week marked a big day for me: my first day as a stay-at-home parent. I resigned from my full-time client such that I could focus more on the family. I hope that it will help to make our lives a bit less chaotic, but that remains to be seen! Little B’s surgery on Tuesday went well, and he is recovering nicely. We spent about a day and a half in the hospital, and it was nice that we were able to have such a short stay. G and I were much more proactive in managing our stay, the hospital staff, and the experience in general. We were also a bit more composed than our last four stays, so that was good – there was no diagnostics to be done and the procedures were more “mundane”, if you will. Unfortunately, we were on the oncology floor, and they are prohibiting siblings due to an outbreak of a particularly nasty respiratory virus. This meant that big brother A couldn’t visit, which was a bit of a bummer all around. Little B had two procedures done: the first was what is called a g-tube, and the second was a “port” for chemo. Little B hasn’t eaten by mouth a significant or sustainable amount for about eight months now. For the past eight months, Little B has had a “NG-tube”, which was a tube that was threaded in his nose, down his esophagus, and into his tummy. The g-tube is a “straw” straight into Little B’s tummy. The g-tube is a much larger tube, which makes getting food into him much easier. The port for chemo will allow the oncology staff to access a central vein for chemo without the ouchies of a lot of pokes (it is just under the skin). We start chemo with Little B on Monday (April 18). Chemo is going to be pretty much every week for a year, and take us about a half day or so each time. The oncologist thinks that it won’t be too bad, as chemo goes. I am going to reserve judgment on the matter, as Little B consistently seems to be doing things his own way. It is hard to believe that Little B has gone through so very much and is still so young – he’ll turn two on the 28th of this month.
