The definition of "magic"!
As pretty much all of you know, Little B’s medical issues have been challenging for us for a long time now. His persistent issues, even post-tumor resection, have been nausea, vomiting, and failing to gain weight. In all honesty, we haven't gone three days in a row without vomit for about a year now. I will tell you, we have tried just about everything to ease the nausea and vomiting, as well as help him to gain weight … a dizzying array of doctors, dietitians, medicines, you name it. Unfortunately, Little B doesn’t eat by mouth, but instead relies on a feeding tube due to problems with the tumor (called a NG tube, because it goes in his nose and down to his tummy).* Up until last weekend, he “ate” commercially prepared formula – Neocate Jr, Nutren, Elecare, etc. They just kept making him sick (we thought it was the tumor residuals, in all honesty). Last week was a little gruesome – Little B had a cold, an ear infection, was teething, and was just not a happy camper. A few days, he just slept on our laps all day. It was pretty rough for all of us. In any case, last weekend after vomiting 4 or 5 times before noon, I had enough and went out and got food for Little B. Real food: goats milk, (pureed) squash and prunes, flax seed oil, eggs, nutritional yeast, etc. And we blended it up such that it could fit down his NG tube (cooked the eggs first, of course!). And we put the “homemade” formula down his tube. We also added a medicine to help block histamines (which cause stomach acid). He hasn’t vomited since (except for once on Sunday when we went to the table and I gave him part of a boiled egg; he doesn't do well with the smell of eggs). In any case, he’s a different kid – tons of energy, no nausea, no vomiting, and just much happier. He is still teething and still coughing and snotty from the cold, but at least he’s not vomiting and nauseous. He's now torturing his older brother! We’re sticking with the blenderized diet from here on out. Real food – that is what has been magic for Little B! *We hope to wean Little B off the tube eventually.
Great news..
