September 20: Sparks!
It has been a while since I've posted, but things have seemed to be getting better. Little B's molars are pretty much, we think, in. Thank you! Thank you! He is such a different, much happier child. I've been whining about these molars since JULY, and Little B has been as well! We did have to give him Ibuprofen tonight for bed, but we're hoping he sleeps through the night ('cuz he certainly didn't last night!).
Last week, G and I decided to move Little B out of our room and back to his room, which is great. And probably pretty healthy for all of us. Unfortunately, Little B is still urpy at night relatively frequently, and also wakes up pretty frequently (usually gas or teeth related). G and I decided that he should still stay in his room. Unfortunately, with the whole urpy thing, at least one of us needs to be able to keep the tube in, so we have to be close at hand. Also, G and I are getting a little tired of Little B's night time antics, and in need of a full night's sleep once in a while. So we put a bed in Little B's room and are taking turns watching/sleeping in Little B's room. It's a bit of a bummer for G and I, but a decent way to get a good night's sleep.
A is going to make me insane before his birthday rolls around. First, he's absolutely terrified that we will forget his birthday. So he reminds us. Almost hourly. Second, he wants presents. Lots of them. Usually related to Transformers (something new for us), but sometimes related to robots. Third, he wants a birthday party, but each day the type of birthday changes. Also, he seems to want a party at either a pool or at Out of This World (a pizza place with bouncy things), both of which I'm not really excited about. I'm hoping we can talk him into a Pirate/Treasure Hunt birthday party or a Safari party (at our house). I just wish we could talk TT into coming out to make a fabulous cake, but she has some other things going on (that is, a baby baking in her tummy!).
Little B's language skills are amazing me. He has recently fallen in love with Wonder Pets, and he shows his love be learning the names "Linny" and "Ming Ming". He also has his eye on Sesame Street characters, due to a coloring obsession (in a Sesame Street coloring book). This morning, he woke up saying "Ernie", who we have colored many, many times. Little B is also very big into dog-gies (and woof-woof), kitties (and meowww), 'tars (guitars), and balloons. We are also reading to him just constantly at his demand/command -- especially "peek-a-boo" books he received from Aunt Marsha and Uncle Loren and "Barnyard Dance."
Little B and I had our first real "conversation" today. We have just been having a devil of a time getting Little B into the van, and more specifically into his car seat. Well, I looked at him today a few minutes before we had to leave and explained that we needed to go get A from preschool. I also told him that we had to go in the van, and that he would need to sit in his car seat. Well, he looked at me and shook his head no. I replied that he needed to get ready to go, and that he would have to sit in his seat. I reminded him just before we left what we were going to do and how fun it would be to see A. We went out to the van and he got in with no problem. So. flipping. amazing. So now we have quick discussion about everything that he would throw a fit over, and he's not thrown a fit yet. A-flipping-mazing. That's all I'm saying. When did the baby become a kid???
Last Saturday, we went "camping" at Susan and Jeff's house -- and this is camping that I can embrace. We ate inside, as it was raining madly outside. I brought a macaroni salad and deviled eggs. We also had some delicious chips, brats and hot dogs, and s'mores (made over a gas range, of course!). Susan and Jeff also put a huge tent down in their basement so that our camping experience was complete! Ok, well, we hung out and gossiped while A and F played downstairs in the tent. Such a very fun night!
Further to G and I's conversation about getting things done around the house, we've had a rather astounding week in getting "stuff" done. G hired an arborist, who came out on Monday, and we had a birch tree that was threatening to blow down on the roof of the lanai. Then, we had four windows replaced (the seals had broken). I was shocked at how much of a difference clear windows make! Awesome. We also put all the artwork and whatnot back up in the main room and the bathroom. It looks much more normal now. We do need more artwork, but I think that will be a work of a lifetime, as opposed to something to just pick up.
Today, we had gardeners come in and give our yard a face lift. It is amazing the difference a decent looking yard has made. We just hadn't had time this summer to really go in and edge, prune and make things look neat, but wow! the good folks from Peace of Mind Landscaping put us to shame. Two guys. Two hours. AMAZING. I would highly recommend them.
