Happy Holidays --Weebert Family Holiday Letter

We hope that this greeting finds you happy and well. This year has been a year of great joys and also of loss for us. We welcomed the arrival of our newest family member, B on April 28th. Little B was 7 lbs. and 9 oz. and 19” long. A took to him right away and has been a great big brother ever since. B’s favorite activities are laughing, eating, terrorizing the dog while scooting around in his walker, and flirting with waitresses when we go out to eat.

We were greatly saddened in May with the passing of G’s dad. Ebie was a great father, father-in-law, and grandpa. We were very blessed to have him in our lives for as long as we did, and we think about him daily. Even though he wasn’t able to meet his latest grandchild in person, we were glad that he was able to share in our happiness on the phone and with photos and video.

This year G was finally able to take his sabbatical from Intel. He was able to take off the entire summer and be a full time dad (much harder than engineering J). M also took the summer off to recover and spend time with “her boys.” A took swimming and sports classes through the local parks and recreation district. B got used to being on the earth and did a lot of sleeping and eating (sounds like a promising start, eh?). In August, we traveled to Wisconsin and Michigan and had a wonderful time. In Wisconsin, we went to Bay Beach, went bowling with family, and had a blast at the Appleton children’s museum. In Michigan, we visited family and spent a ton of time hanging out at the family cottage on Lake McGilvery. A worked hard on his swimming and had a ball playing with cousin R.

After G returned to work he has been working to take one a new role that is proving to be very interesting and challenging (and just as difficult to explain as his old job). M found that she very much enjoys teaching law to paralegal students at Portland Community College. She also maintains her law practice, as well. A is in his second year of preschool. He is doing extremely well with all of his fundamentals and is starting to do some pre-reading. B has mastered rolling over, sitting up, putting everything he gets his hands on in his mouth, and is now starting to wave and try to feed himself. B is also valiantly attempting to overcome gravity and start crawling, but that skill still requires a bit of work.

In October A had his fourth birthday and it was epic. To make his birthday even more special, Grandma E came out to see us! As he still tells everyone, he had two parties – one for school friends and one for family friends. The preschool party’s theme was “super hero training” and was a great success. Grandma E sewed special superhero capes for all of A’s friends, and the kids got to decorate their own masks, did some “training” exercises, and got to decorate their very own special cupcake. The family friends party was also a ton of fun – we had about 30 people over for burgers, fries and even more cupcakes! A is still working tentatively on mastering his new big boy bicycle and scooter that he got as presents. And convincing his parents that he should always get two birthday parties!

G continues to play golf (poorly but improving) whenever possible, and has started playing bass in a local band. He also had some languishing woodworking projects that he hopes to work on someday. M continues her pursuit for the perfect cupcake recipe and documenting the travails of our merry band on our blog. A is an aspiring knight (or pirate, depending on the day) and adventurer and is honing his sword fighting and archery skills to prepare for future quests. For B, the sky is the limit.
