Food Club!

Today was food club for the boys, and what a fun time! Little B was in early intervention due to a number of issues associated with the tumor. A great service he received was a feeding group -- weekly get-togethers of eating-adverse kids where they would introduce a few new foods at a time. Well, the group had to disband due to summer break, so I convinced the parents in the group that we should get together and keep it up. I put together a weekly bunch of foods that sort of logically "go" together... think things for tacos (and then make tacos at the end).

Happily, it seems to be working really, really well. A few of the kids (including Big A, who is participating as well) have started picking up new foods. One little girl has started eating ranch dressing, which is great, because she'll eat anything dipped in ranch. Super useful, dips! In any case, it's going well.

I was somewhat disheartened, though, in that one of the moms is doing a food group through her healthcare program. Unfortunately, they are doing pretty much the same thing we are. The disheartening part is that we were hoping for new insights or cutting-edge research. It doesn't seem like there's anything we can do that we aren't already doing. It is just a long, long road. Well, we have nothing but time.

This week at food club: Things from the garden (and other stuff)
From our garden: spinach, lettuce, carrots and peas
Other stuff: Cheetos (baked), mozzerella sticks, cheddar sticks, cucumbers, ranch dressing, sour cream

Last time: Things we dip
Pretzels, graham crackers, random other crackers, peanut butter, boysenberry jelly, strawberry jelly, cream cheese
