Restaurant Review: Izzy's

G had a great idea a few days ago... namely, that we should start going to buffets so that the kids can try a whole bunch of new foods and then we make the things that work out with the kids at home. Sounds like a good idea, no? Big A does really well when he can turn things into "projects" with reports or charts, so I present to you: The Weebert Restaurant Review.

Our first buffet: Izzy's Pizza in Beaverton. I will admit that G and I are not generally fans of buffets, so take this "restaurant review" thing with a large grain of salt. I am a vegetarian who has trouble with dairy, so that cuts down on the options for the most part. However, I loved being able to introduce Big A to the culture/societal norms that go along with a buffet -- taking a bit to see if you like something, trying things a bit outside your norm, using tongs appropriately, and JOYS OF JOYS, the ice cream machine. :-)  Little B likewise had a good time learning about buffets, but he was pretty overwhelmed with all of the choices.

For Big A, he gave Izzy's 4 stars out of 5, "mostly because they had both pizza and ice cream." They didn't quite get 5 stars because the foccacia was too garlicky. Big A did try vegetable soup (well, the broth) and saltine crackers, both which impressed me.

(Funny aside: I realized that I had neglected a bit of Big A's eating education while at Izzy's. Big A got a fried chicken leg at the buffet and then started gnawing on it. He couldn't figure out why he couldn't eat the entire thing (as you would for say, a chicken nugget or chicken breast). When we explained that there was a bone in the chicken leg, he was incredulous. "Why would anyone put a bone in there!?!?!" Whoops!)

Little B gave Izzy's 4 stars out of 5 because Big A did. He's not quite declared independence on this one!

G and I both gave it 2 for the food (but if pressed we'd say 3, just because the kids enjoyed the experience). The salad bar, which is something I tend to focus on, was surprisingly skimpy. There were really few just salad toppings, which, again, was a bit of a surprise. That being said, the bill was pretty reasonable. We'll probably go again, just to Big A can eat BOTH PIZZA AND ICE CREAM (said very, very loudly!).

In any case, we are on a mission to visit another buffet later this week, so wish us luck! ;-)
